Hotel Machiavelli Palace***
Via Nazionale, 10 - 50123 Firenze The Chiesa di San Jacopo in Campo Corbolini was founded in 1206 and from 1256 on it belonged to the Templar knights; after various adventurous events in 1700 a small nunnery was added on one side of the church, exactly where the Hotel Machiavelli Palace is now located. Two noble Florentine families, Bartolini Salimbelli, famous both in Siena and in Florence for their power of initiative in commerce and politics (many of their members became priors or gonfaloniers) bought the nunnery and transformed it into a palace; the family coat of arms is still on the building. The hotel was completely restored in 1990, but the lines and finishings, the frescos, the coffered ceilings, example of Florentine style of that period remained unchanged, since they communicate the typical atmosphere of the old Florence. The hotel is really close to the Duomo and the most important museums; it’s just 200 meters far from the railway station and the Palazzo dei congressi. Breakfast is served in the frescoed refectory of the old convent.
