Hotel Astor created a new style in
the luxury hotel business. The Astor is located on a calm Paris street close
to the Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré with its haute couture boutiques, nearby
the renown department store, walking distance to the Champs-Elysées, the Place
de la Concorde and la Madeleine Church.
The seven-story building was built in
1907 as an apartment complex. Its facade of Paris stone is decorated with
typical Art Nouveau corbelling and ornaments.
In 1930, the new owner converted the
building into a hotel, calling it the Astor in honor of the American hotel
dynasty.
A group of private investors purchased
the property in 1992. After being completely renovated and redecorated by one
of France's foremost interior designers, Frédéric Mechiche, it re-opened in
June, 96.
Mechiche's decorative scheme of the Astor
recaptures the luxury and elegance of the grand Parisian hotels of the
Thirties.
