Chambre Empire is a
very accurate representation of a room of the 1st Empire period
(1804-1814), and the spectacular bathroom is a replica of Josephine de
Beauharnais -wife of Napoleon Bonaparte - bathroom in her mansion in
Paris. Joséphine de Beauharnais family was related to the family of
Marie-Christine de Percin, countess Denis de Kergorlay, in the Martinique
island.

The Suite Polignac is
a very accurate representation of a room of the Restoration period
(1815-1830) that followed the fall of Empire and preceded the 1830
Revolution. The name of the room is dedicated to the Polignac family that
played an eminent role in French history and is a friendly family to ours.
The Kergorlay family holds its place altogether in the Restoration period
through the political action of Count Florian de Kergorlay, brother of
Louis Gabriel, peer of France and fierce legitimist. Florian was the
father of Louis de Kergorlay, the intimate friend and cousin of Alexis de
Tocqueville, author of "Democracy in America". Chambre Empire and Suite Polignac are at present the two most spectacular rooms of the chateau.

Chambre George Sand, chambre Grand-Mère and suite Coloniale are typical rooms of the 19th century in the history of France. And, finally since the XXth century belongs now to history two rooms have been newly decorated representing this past century: The chambre 1930 with its spectacular art deco bathroom - replica of the existing art deco bathroom at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris created for the venue of the king of England in the thirties - will represent "les années art deco" and corresponds also to a famous wedding in the Kergorlay family in Canisy at this time. Then la Chambre Années 90 represents the style of rooms & bathrooms at the end of the XXth century : minimalist and "dépouillé" . A spectacular bathroom all furnished with marble, no bathtub, just an immense shower...At present this bathroom is completed, but the room is still decorated in XVIIIème century style. The modern decoration will take place in 2003. |
